THE ISLAMIZATION OF EUROPEAN FOOTBALL

This is the current point of the Islamization of European football, a phenomenon that began decades ago, and that each season progresses further.

The expected and mediatic eliminator Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), resulted in the victory of the English team and its move to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. If in the first match in Paris, the two teams tied at 0-0; in the second one, played in the Etihad Stadium Manchester ( the formerly City of Manchester Stadium but the new name is because the stadium is sponsored by Etihad Airlines), Bahrain´s Airways- Manchester City won 1-0 and now will play against Real Madrid (Spain) to pass or not to the semi-finals of the biggest European club football championship.

A priori this seems like a sports story, but it was something else. Behind this sports confrontation, was the economic struggle and geopolitical confrontation between Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

PSG is owned, since 2011, by Qatar Sports Investments, a company owned by the Qatari Emir Tamim Ben Hamad al Thani. His first actions as president caused large protests by the Parisian fans because the sheik sought to eliminate all Christian and French references (including the Fleur-de-lis) from the PSG´s shield. It was only this popular reactionary pressure that has allowed the withdrawal to be "partial," reducing it to a minimum, and with the clear intention of making it go away gradually.

The grounds for believing that Qatar is behind the funding of Muslim extremist groups has caused in France some people to wake up. Fans of other teams have called for a boycott of PSG for its connection to Islamist terrorism[1] (mostly in Bastia, Corsica, where fans held an enormous banner: “LE QATAR FINANCE LE PSG ET LE TERRORISME") [2].

On the other hand, Manchester City belongs to the investment fund Abu Dhabi United Group, owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and in its shirt one can see the propaganda of Etihad Airways.

For this reason, beyond the sporting rivalry, the confrontation between those two "European" (sic) teams had the background of the financial and geopolitical confrontation between both   Arabs states; Let´s remember that Abu Dhabi - more moderate religiously - includes on its blacklist of terrorist organizations the Muslim Brotherhood organization that is clearly supported by Qatar[3]  . (In fact, UAE’s Abu Dhabi threatened to cut relations with the UK if it would not ban the Muslim Brotherhood while Prime Minister David Cameron has found an excuse not to do so).

This is the current point of the Islamization of European football, a phenomenon that began decades ago, and that each season progresses further. Remember that such a traditional European teams as Arsenal place on their shirts the emblem of Fly Emirates, as well as Qatar Airways for Barcelona FC, although Barça has had to withdraw from its merchandising for sale
