A New Ukrainian TV Channel: What Will it Show?

Last week, the president of the reactionary regime of Kiev signed a law “on the foreign broadcasting system of Ukraine.”

This law included the creation of a new state-funded channel with the – quite… imaginative – name of “Ukraine tomorrow,” that will make efforts to “defeat the lies of the aggressor.” It is a great opportunity for the world to witness the marvelous achievements of the regime – which came to power through a coup spearheaded by fascist gangs with the blessing and active support of the US and the EU. Let us imagine some of the things we will be able to see in this channel, which will be subordinated to the Ministry of Information Policy, a.k.a. “Truth Ministry” – in a true Orwellian fashion.

Speaking of the Ministry of Information Policy, which was founded in December 2014 in order to “counter Russian propaganda,” let us point out that it is headed by a gentleman named Valeriy Bebik, who is an academic and a professor. It is now very likely that the world will become better acquainted with his rich and valuable contribution to academia. Let us handpick some of the theories he introduces in his work:

  • European civilization was shaped by Ukrainian civilization in 6,000-8,000 B.C.
  • The Sumerian, Trojan, Egyptian and Greek civilizations were shaped by four different civilizations who lived in ancient Ukraine.
  • Ukrainians were the first to contact God, invent writing and set the bases for human civilization.
  • Jesus Christ was an Egyptian priest who served a Ukrainian Pharaoh.
  • Buddha, as well as the founders of Rome and Egypt, were ancient Ukrainians who were given the knowledge directly from God. The same applies for the creators of music and art.

Or maybe the world could get to know more about some interesting aspects of the education system of the country. The following text is part of a book that is being taught in Ukrainian schools in the Language class.

This text says the following (in a rough translation):

“We are the children of Ukraine, Ukraine is our Mother and, as you know, mothers are not selected. But the Malorussians, who were born as Ukrainians, reject their natural Mother and go to the stepmother, serving her as a true mother. Such “children of Ukraine” do not tremble even when they betray their Mother – Ukraine. They feel no shame for their evil behavior, they have no morals, no responsibility to their ancestors and their descendants. They have no conscience, as they discredit the Ukrainian nation with their conduct. If these creatures may seem to resemble our human race in appearance, in their essence they are degenerates, half-humans (even if they boast of science and post-graduate degrees). Many of them should have been in the Ukrainian prisons for a long time. Yes, our jails await them – finally what will come to these Ukrainophobes, will be not only to visit the prisons, but to stay there forever. And then the Ukrainian society will be cleansed from this filth, this garbage, this disgrace."

Or, we may get to hear about the law signed recently by the Ukrainian President, Petro Poroshenko, on October 13, 2015. This law, entitled “For the strategy of the national patriotic education of children and youth,” praises Stepan Bandera and the OUN/UPA (Nazi collaborators during WWII), Symon Petliura and his army (nationalist counterrevolutionary army that had fought against the Red Army during the civil war that followed the October Revolution) as well as those who participate in the “Anti-Terror Operation” – that is the war that the regime of Kiev is waging against the people of Donbass.

The people of the world might also have a chance to see signs such as the one placed in Chernihiv by the SBU (Ukrainian information service). This sign consists of a text that reads “Give information about separatists to the SBU” accompanied with the picture of a hand in the Ukrainian colors crushing a Colorado bug in the colors of the Saint-George ribbon. The people of the world will then get to know that this bug symbolizes the people of Donbass. This is how the regime of Kiev treats them, and this should come as no surprise; it is merely following the footsteps of its ideological grandfathers, the Nazis, in whose ideology and practice the notion of the “sub-human” held a central position. From the moment that the opponents were stripped from their human identity, their elimination in the various concentration camps became an easy task. The word “sub-human” has been publicly used in the past by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yatseniuk. *

If the situation was not so serious, we would allow ourselves a brief smile over things such as the “academic work” of Bebik. Unfortunately, there is no time for such luxuries. The coup of February 2014, which brought a reactionary junta with a strong fascist wing to power, was another episode of the US drive to update its global hegemony. With the law of uneven development systematically undermining this hegemony, the US can get out of this crisis only through the escalation of its aggression and the diminishing geopolitical role of its competitors.

The victory of the Euromaidan has meant the fall of the GDP of Ukraine by about 30% between 2013-2014 (from 183 billion dollars in 2013 to 131 billion dollars in 2014), with the World Bank estimating that it will fall further by 12% by the end of 2015. On the economic level, we are talking about the complete collapse of the economy (of course, at the same time Porosenko is becoming richer) accompanied by an overwhelming attack against the proletariat and its standards of living. This attack is imposed by harsh repression, silencing of any opposition, media censorship, fascist terror and simultaneous nurturing of the most vulgar nationalism to the population, so that its indignation can be directed away from the junta and towards the "external enemy who threatens the nation." The capstone of all the above is the war that Kiev has unleashed against the people of Donbass, which has resulted in thousands of deaths and millions of refugees and displaced people. This regime must be fought by any means possible.

Footnote

* The notion of the “sub-human,” which would later be adopted by the German Nazis, seems to have first appeared in 1922, in the work of an American racist, Lothrup Stoddard, who wrote a book entitled “The Revolt Against Civilization – The Threat Of The Under-Man.” Drenched in the fear that Western ruling elites felt towards the revolutionary developments in 1917 Russia, this book advocates that the October Revolution (or “the revolt of the under-man”, as it refers to it) was the beginning of an organized insurrection of the “forces of chaos against civilization.” The book also claims that these “forces of chaos” are born from the “racial impoverishment” and that it was not a coincidence that the revolution happened in Russia; the Russian people is supposedly an “inferior” people. The book goes on to “prove” this claim by using a “scientific” method, before drawing the tasks: the “civilized West” should wage war against the “forces of chaos.” This does sound familiar, no?
